The police are advising that caution should be exercised for postal scams in the run up towards Christmas. Although these scams come in a variety of disguises, a particuarly nasty one which was closed down a number of years ago could reappear.
This is normally in the form of a card being placed through the letter box indicating that a package or parcel was unable to be delivered to your home. The card also states that a telephone number given on the card should be called to rearrange delivery. The number is a high premium rate telephone number and recorded messages keep you waiting.
In these cases, high telephone charges may be accrued and there is no package or parcel awaiting delivery.
If in doubt call the police using the 101 number.
